Mission and Values
At Firewheel, our mission is...
to develop un-churched, de-churched and badly churched people into revolutionary followers of Jesus Christ.
We are, by no stretch of the imagination, “perfect” people. We are simply people from every background, every ethnic group, and every socio-economic status, who are slowly (some of us more slowly than others!), but surely, being changed by Jesus from the inside out. We hope that the way we live will communicate the radical change that Jesus has brought about in us.
Four values permeate the culture of our church:
Grace reflects our belief that the cross of Jesus Christ makes equals of all of us. Therefore no one here has any reason to boast about his or her “spiritual resume” or to look down on anyone else. Our doors are open to anyone and everyone who
wants to come.
Truth reflects our conviction that the Bible is God’s Word to humanity; therefore we would be wise to preach it, teach it, study it, and live it.
Spirit reflects our belief that mere external rules and “codes of conduct” are inadequate to change a human heart. Genuine change must begin inside the heart, through the work of God’s Spirit.
Action reflects our belief that spiritual transformation is not a passive process…we must pursue it. It also reflects our belief that genuine internal change will manifest itself in external behavior. More than anything we say, it’s the way we live and the
things we do that communicate the reality of Jesus Christ in us.
Practically speaking, these four values create an environment that fosters, among other things, authenticity, creativity, unity, healthy relationships, servanthood, social action, and genuine life change.
